Cod Hole, Osprey Reef VS Outer Barrier Reefs?

  1. All the expeditions to Cod Hole and Osprey Reef are twice the price compare to the expeditions to the Outer Barrier Reef …. for the same duration (3 days). I guess the plane ride justify it.

What more can I expect in Cod Hole / Osprey Reef… compare to Outer Barrier Reef (Norman and Saxon reefs).

    Better water clarity?

    Rare species?

    Less divers?

    Mermaids? : )

  2. You do get far better diving at the northern sites (Cod Hole, Ribbon Reefs, etc) and out at Osprey (way out pas the GBR), especially from a photographers point of view. Generally clearer water, greater diversity of marine life, both big and small, healthier corals, although I'm yet to see a mermaid.

Upon saying that, the diving around the sites off Cairns (Norman, Saxon, etc etc) can offer some decent diving, but there is a fairly big difference.

Have a look at Taka for Cod Hole and Osprey trips that don't require a flight to Lizard Island. You're right though, there is a hefty price difference, but IMO worth it.

  3. The diving at the Ribbon Reefs and Osprey Reef is several steps up from the diving off Cairns, which isn't bad, but sees alot more visitors from day trippers. The extra cost to get out to the Ribbon and Osprey is well worth it, as Aussie has listed - clearer water, better corals and bigger and better marine life.

Hope you have a great trip.

    Regards
