Ikelite Digital Housing Question - Spring on Shutter

10 posts
  1. I inadvertantly had the spring come loose on the shutter knob on my Ikelite Housing for my Olympus 4040. Anyone know how to reattach it? Thanks.

  2. I have the same housing. I have never removed the spring but here goes. If you need send me an e-mail and I can take a picture and send to you.

The spring has two ends one flat and the other with a "hook". The flat end goes against the front of the housing at the right edge if you are looking from the back. The coil in the middle goes around the shutter release as it comes in the housing. The hook end goes on the release from bottom right before the last bend on the shutter release.

    Hope this helps.

    Jeff

  3. I had this happen also. After many tries to fix it myself, I sent it back to Ikelite and they fixed it. No Charge- just shipping

As long as it's out, I would put some plastic tape on the ends to keep it from scratching the housing,

They told me to NOT push down the lever without the camera in the housing.

As nice as these housings are engineered, this is a pretty weak solution IMHO.

  4. Thanks. I had the placement of the spring figured out but was having a heck of a time getting it put back on. I guess I will send it back to Ikelite. Happy Diving!

  5. My CP 5000 housing didn't come with a spring for the shutter lever. Do you think the spring is an advantage?

  6. Good thought, you really don't need the spring except to keep the shutter arm from hanging up as you load the camera in the housing. As for as feel, it might be better without the spring now that you mention it.

  7. No shutter release spring on revised Coolpix 5000 housings. This seemed to provide the best feel. kdietz is very correct on his assessment that this does require shutter release control to be moved above camera when installing in the housing............

  8. Yea, I learned that lesson. Putting the camera in with the 19 mm lens on it is the one where you have to be carefull. It's not difficult to set up the housing. You just have to pay attention to what you are doing.

  9. So, are you saying there is no problem with me taking the spring off and using it without it???? Thanks.

  10. I am not a fan of shutter release springs but we try to include since customer expects it. Certainly no problem to use a housing without the spring............
