Optical Syncing an Inon Z240 or YS110 to Ikelite DS-51 Strobe

  1. Here’s the problem. My wife shoots a G9 in an Ikelite housing and DS-51 strobe. She wants to add an additional strobe to her rig. I have an YS110 alpha and an Inon Z240 type 2 she could shoot. You can purchase a dual electrical sync cable that will trigger two Ikelite strobes or two Inon/Sea&Sea strobes. There is no dual sync cord that allows you to trigger an Ikelite Inon/Sea&Sea combination.

My thought was to connect the DS51 via the electronic sync cable and optically slave the YS110 or Z240 using a fiber optic mount on the DS-51 diffuser.

Is there any reason this will not work?

Can anyone suggest a more elegant solution?

If the DS51 in operating in TTL mode, will the Inon and Sea&Sea retain their TTL capability in this configuration?

  2. In case anyone was wondering, I have this working with the Z240 type 3. It appears to be shooting S-TTL correctly when slaved to the DS-51.
