i recently bought a canon 7d and a tokina 16-50mm lens for my topside lens. will this lens work for underwater? i really want to buy the 10-17 but cant find any in stock. i am about to purchase an aquatica housing. which port would i need for this lens if it will work for underwater? i will mainly be taking photos of large snappers, groupers, pelagics and divers. i will eventually get into macro shots. if the tokina 16-50 will not work, i may go the macro route until i can get a 10-17. which macro lens and port would yall suggest? i mainly freedive so i will most likely use autofucos alot. ii will mainly be diving oil rigs at home. lots of little fish and tropicals on the rigs. dont think i will be taking many pics of really small things. i also like to travel and will be going to maui in april and lapaz in june.
thanks

I don't have any experience with the Tokina you're asking about so I can't help there. I did notice that it extends to zoom which makes it tough to use behind a port. The go to lens for the fish you describe is the 60mm. works nicely as a macro lens too.
I'd hang in there and try to get a Tokina 10-17mm. It would give you the potential to get some great wide angle shots in the rigs with divers etc.
Good luck,
Steve
that is what i was thinking. do you know what port i would use for the 60mm? would a dome port work or do i need a flat port?

Aquatica recommends a flat port and you have two choices. One would be auto focus only and one would give you the option of AF and Manual focus. The Aquatica ports are here;
If you're in the US I'd recommend you give Backscatter a call just to be sure. Tell them what you want to do and they will be happy to help. If you're not in the US the dealers are listed on the Aquatica web site here;
thanks. im in the US (i live on the mississippi coast) and Backscatter is who i was going to order from. ill give them a call this week
im set on getting the 60mm macro set up and maybe a sea and sea ys110 single strobe. which wide angle set up would you recommend? sigma 15, or canon 17-40? is there a lens that would compliment the tokina 10-17. as much as this lens is talked about im going to buy one when/if it comes out.
