Although I enter something every year, I have never won anything in this contest until today. For photojournalists, the POYi is an annual competition and is one of the bigger ones drawing thousands of entries from around the world. When I logged on to see the judges selections in the Science/Natural History picture story category, I was surprised to see one of the winners was on the same topic as my entry. When I looked at the photos I was shocked to see they were my photos! I am very excited and proud and I invite everyone to take a look at the following link:
Congratulations! It's interesting to compare your image to the second place photograph of the California Condor.
The second place shot is a more pedestrian image that feels to me like it's artificially exaggerating the condor's eye, but the photo includes an endangered animal. Your shot is about photography and composition and lighting and seeing the beauty in common things, the condor image is about finding a rare animal and taking a snapshot.
