Pics from Raja Ampat and Ambon

11 posts
  1. Hello all, I just returned from a trip on the Adventurer 2 liveaboard through Raja Ampat, followed by four days of diving in Ambon and Maluku Dive Resort. It was a great mix of scenic vistas and muck diving. It was a trip of "firsts," too; our first liveaboard, our first manta dive, our first mandarin fish sightings, among other firsts. Here are a few of the pics.

  2. Nice shot of the SOLAR NUDI (in your photo album)...looks like it was a great trip of "firsts"

  3. That's great Erwin. So how did you like your first liveaboard?

    Some wonderful shots partner.

  4. Thanks AMW and Steve.

Steve, I liked the liveaboard a lot, but mainly because it made so many far-flung dive sites very accessible. I would go on the Adventurer2 again in a heartbeat, because it is a great boat (with an incredible crew), and because it goes on routes that cover a lot of ground. After going on the boat, I do not have a preference for land-based versus liveaboard; I would say it depends on the quality of either option, and how much area you need to cover. I am pretty seriously considering a liveaboard for Fiji (have never been there), mainly because there are supposed to be some good liveaboard operations, and because the best dive sites can be a long haul from land and from each other.

Did you make your Wakatobi plus Indonesian liveaboard trip yet?

  5. Did you make your Wakatobi plus Indonesian liveaboard trip yet?

Sadly it's not until July. I love liveaboards, the ability to just roll out of bed and into the ocean is wonderful. Fiji is an exceptional place though where you owe it to yourself to spend some time with the people there. The people on the outer islands are amazing.

I'll bet the Nikon was smokin after your trip. I just put your set on the slideshow and kicked back and enjoyed them. ;) How did all the gear hold up?

  6. Thanks for the Fiji tip, Steve. I will definitely keep it in mind (probably do a combined liveaboard, land-based trip). As for the equipment, no failures at all (other than needing to replace an o-ring on my port because of the beginning of a small leak, but no harm done).

I hope that your trip goes as well as this one. Really special.

  7. Looks like you had a great trip, your slide show was great on Flickr, a very enjoyable 5 minutes viewing. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Nice collection of subjects.

    Cheers

  9. Thanks, Tristan and Todd. It really is a trip I would love to do again. - Erwin

  10. Great shots Erwin...

I want to dive Raja Ampat...

    ;)

  11. Truly wonderful pictures. Do make a kava party in FIJI. Everything I read said it makes your tongue feel like its covered with peach fuzz. And after trying it, all I could do to describe it was...it makes your tongue feel like its cover with peach fuzz! Curiously, in a good way.

Kava looks like river water, it tastes rather like river water, and I found myself wanting more. When all logic and reason no longer fit, fun new experiences can be had.
