Seatool Dome and Sigma 17-70mm

  1. Hi

Are their any forum members who have paired these two?

What was the results like? What was the pros and cons?

    Which extension did you use?

    Thanks

  2. I have the 17-70 and a Seatool housing, but usually use the wide flat port with the lens. This makes it easier to use the lens' macro capability, such as it is.

  3. Hi Mike

    Thanks for the feedback.

But have you used the 17-70 behind the dome?

    How was the corners?

I am not in the market for the wide flat port at this time, so only want to get as much info on the dome as possible.

I know the Tokina 10-17mm is popular lens to use behind the dome, but have you used any other lens behind it?

I am using this setup with Nikon D300 and a 30mm extension.

I am more interested at taking WA photos and so I am using this extension.

The cons of this setup is that the lens will hit the port at around 60.

  5. Hi kkfok

Thats good news, I certainly would want to use the lens wide and since that is the same extension ring as for the Tokina 10-17mm its a bonus:)

I am sure I will mostly use the Tokina, but there is a few subjects i would like to shoot with a lens not as wide and therefore interested in the possibility of using the Sigma as well.

Thanks for the links to the photos as well.

I guess one don't need a diopter since the lens can focus close enough?

How do you like the lens behind the dome?

Sorry that I made a mistake on the kind of extensions that I am using.

    I am using a 20mm extension (SLPME-20)+ 30mm mount base(SLPMB-30) with my 17cm Dome Port (SLDPM-170F).

That means a total of 50mm of extension, but the lens still hits the port at around 62mm.

I haven't use diopter as I found that it didn't improve the corners and it further reduces the tele side that I can use.

I believe the setup that was recommended to me was the 30mm mount base with the 35mm extension. You should be able to verify the correct combination with your dealer.

I have tried 30 mm extension (SLPME-30) . At 17mm I found the corners were blocked by the black plastic sheet at the base of the dome port (on land). I haven't try the setup underwater.
