first u/w shots with my beloved nikon d200

  1. Mar.27th 11.00am…somewhere on the west coast of Ireland…

Into the green atlantic…….first dive of the year………first dive with my Nikon d200 in a Sea and Sea housing…..nervous….worried sick about springing a leak….I float on the surface for a few minutes….. checking for any tell tale signs…testing things in the bath tub is one thing, but now it’s the real thing…..all looks good, the sun comes out….I submerge to 4 meters holding my new ‘child’….I look at the housing, look at the strobes…..turning it over and around in my hands…checking…. checking checking…..finally I relax… and the realisation finally dawns…after x number of years diving with various camera rigs I am now in the ‘DSLR class’…and I have to start to learn everything again from scratch. 90 minutes of ‘zone time’ pass by…8 degree water…..borderline hypothermic… I re-emerge….I am starting a new leg of discovery in underwater photography …and all…. is…well…………

I dedicate my first efforts :o to all you wetpixellers out there..thank you for your generosity and sharing over the last few months…..particularly to Rob Barker for getting the ball rolling…to Mariozi, Mark Prior, Rene, Cal, Steve…to Alex Mustard and to Martin (the 4th edition is fantastic) Edge for the inspiration… and most of all…. to my ever (suffering) understanding wife… for getting me to this point.

    Thank you!!!!!!!!!

  2. Congratulations Damo!

Outstanding! I really like the first image. Brown on tan is tough to pull off but you pretty much nailed it. The light looks great, and thanks for taking us along on the first dive. Hard to believe you can have that much fun, huh?

    Kudos,

    Steve

  3. Excellent to see you are off and running. Having a healthy fear of floods is a good way to keep your camera dry!

  4. Cool - nice pics. I also like the first one. Thanks for sharing your first dive with the "child." Looking forward to seeing more from you.

  5. Congrats on the new 'Child" gald it worked out alright, I remember the first dive i did with mine under very similar conditions although you far outperformed me on the shooting front. I look forward to seeing the progress :o
