Who's pulling my leg?

  1. I got a little news coverage this morning from my unique dive encounter I had yesterday out at Breaker's reef in Palm Beach, Florida. It aired this morning on the TV and the news anchors got a good laugh out of it wondering why I thought someone was playing a hoax on me... Apparently they don't know to what extent some of my friends will go to play a good joke on me. I love it! :)

Wild encounter there. Too funny about how the anchors just don't understand :)

    Awesome!

I was just at breakers a couple of weeks ago... no gators. :-(

And viz was apparently a lot better yesterday than when I was there.

Yeah.. Viz can change so dramatically from day to day here. Some of the best viz days are usually some of the bumpiest with an east wind.

BTW Chris... These photos and videos were taken with a 7D in a Nauticam housing. It's amazing how stable this housing is considering how much my hands were shaking. :)

  5. Great encounter Laz. Each dive we never know what we just might see.

  6. Fantastic encounter Laz. I can't wait to get home to watch the video.

    Cheers

  7. That's an awesome experience. It's amazing how fast it got out of sight. I hope he finds his way home. Great job!

Sweet! Were you on the buoys just off shore there, or were you further out? What I like about the close in buoys is that I can tie my sailboat up there and dive.... can't really dive off of my boat offshore in the current.

Can I post a link to this on our website?

  9. Outstanding Laz!

Love the shots of it. I would not know how close I would want to get to the front end. Looks like you gave it a little room.

    Cheers and thanks for sharing

  10. Thanks for the nice compliments everyone. It's amazing how quickly news travels around here. The new stations did a follow up story interviewing me and the captain who had his own story to tell about his topside encounter with the gator. It will be interesting to see how they edit what we had to say to go along with the story. I'm always afraid they will sensationalize the story into something more than it is.

Chris - I was out diving on the deep reef at Breakers, not near the buoys. I have been seeing an amazing school of big tarpon around the buoys. With the white sand and crystal clear water that school of tarpon would make for a stunning photograph. Feel free to post a link however you like.

Todd - When you think you're close... get closer! I help rid you of that unwarranted gator fear next time you're down here, buddy. :)

  11. Way to go Laz! Seriously cool to find an alligator on your reef. Just for the record folks that breathing you hear in the video is about 3 times normal for our buddy Laz.

Hand holding the housing looked much better than I expected.

    Very cool,

    Steve

  12. WOW! Way to go Laz!

  13. That's a pretty amazing encounter!

No worries there. Michaele laughed and was quite sure I would have the nose on the end of the dome. There goes another dome! LOL

Can't wait to get back down.

  15. Isn't nature GRAND?!!!!!

  16. And if your buddies are as sharp as I suspect, NOW they will get a rubber gator, weight it and plant it accordingly. :)
