Nikon D5000

  1. I am thinking about housing my Nikon D5000.

    Why you may ask?

    1. I already own it.

    2. It is a pretty decent camera, and does everything a D300s does.

    3. It is only about $500 to replace it if the unthinkable happens.

    What are the cons?

    1. A small viewfinder compared to the D90 or D300s

I was wondering if the small viewfinder was that big of a deal buster for wide angle photography.

I am thinking Ikelite, because I want my wife to have TTL.

  2. I actually have the brochure for one on my desk. Am considering a purchase.

    1) It won't AF with any fisheyes (Nikon 10.5mm or Tokina 10-17mm) and any non-AFS Nikon, Sigma lenses.

    2) AF is much, much less capable than Nikon D300/D300s

    3) LCD is a bit small, but much, much lower resolution

    4) I think RAW is 12bit, not 14bit (can't find any mention of 14 bit in brochure).

    These are all pretty significant.

  3. Just for idea. get ikelite D5000, d90 or d300s also some price. Why not get a better camera that can serve you better? Try to grip it try at any camera shop before you decide

  4. Thanks for the replies. I guess the Nikon D90 makes more sense. The D300s is way too expensive for me.

But, now I am am tempted by the Canon 550/T2i. I have some basic Nikon gear, but not so much that I can't be tempted by Canon.
