Lembeh Wide Angle!

  1. At first it's easy to assume that it is a dead leaf floating under the surface...

  2. Todd takes a closer look...

  3. Nope... It's a juvenile batfish.

  4. You don't survive this long unless the camouflage is effective

  5. Even fools the birds...

  6. 07.30 - Job done - Time for breakfast!

  7. Ah, the last one's like the one I got. Nice shots.

  8. Yes. Love that last batfish shot.

  9. FWIW, there's a fish in the Gulf of Mexico called a Tripletail that does this behavior. It gets up to like 10 pounds though - that's a big leaf!

    Cheers

  10. Bob, that's a great shot (the last one - # 5). What lens were you using?

  11. Thanks, Yes that's the very shot I was after but the sequence up until then was interesting so I strung it out for 32 exposures to provide a story (This is the short version!). It wasn't there are the beginning of the dive so I shot with the macro setup on the site. When I ascended there it was, so the boatman fetched the WA setup back from the boat. I was using the (used) superb 20mm nikkor (a worthy equal to the 20mm UW nikkor), behind an 8" dome.

  12. #5 really is a shot I wish I had took  - superb!

  13. Thanks again. Problem with wide angle at Lembeh is the amount of crap there is in the water - Disgusting considering that this area is of global interest. On one particular dive I had to blow a hole out of the surface with my reg so I could ascend amid the plastic bags, household rubbish and jellyfish.

As a consiquense trying to get around scatter is impossible when ordinary sunlight will cause the same effect.

This is a natural light shot...
