Canon 20D & Aquatica A20 Housing System
So I’ve finally broken down and decided to sell my 20D rig. I added a 5D M2 and Aquatica system to my collection a while ago and planned to keep the 20D system as a backup / secondary. However I totally fell in love with the 5D and now the poor 20D just sits on the shelf so I figure it’s better let someone else get some use out of it. Over time I have made some custom modifications to the system to better suit my needs:
Over time I have broken the rubber cover to the shutter release button off both of the 20D bodies. They still work just fine outside the housing, but the shutter release lever in the housing was too narrow to connect with the remaining nub on the camera bodies. I didn’t want to pay for replacing the entire top panel of the cameras (only option from Canon) so I machined a small delrin disk and epoxied it to the end of the shutter release level inside the housing. It does not interfere with any other operations at all, works just fine with bodies that still have the shutter release button in place, and solved my problem.
I spend a lot of time in caves or inside wrecks, both places where I wanted to have the dome cover in place until I was ready to start shooting. At the same time I needed a solution that was easy on / easy off and didn’t require me to use a pocket to store the cover when not in use. So I have placed some grommets on each side of the dome cover and run a loop of bungee through the grommets. These loops attach to the handles and allow me to slip the cover on and off very rapidly using one hand. When not in place the bungee keeps the cover bunched up (and out of the frame) below the dome.
Because quite a bit of my diving is in high current areas or I’m driving a DPV I needed a very reliable way to secure the housing to myself and not worry that it was going to leave. I have attached a Cetacea expanding coil lanyard to the base of the right housing handle and replaced the standard plastic clip with an XL stainless steel swivel snap. The left handle has a stainless steel quick-link threaded into it to facilitate a 2nd backup lanyard for those especially high current dives or to keep the rig positioned in a particular way when scootering in caves. In both cases these additions could be easily removed if not wanted leaving only a small through hole at the bottom of each handle.
Here’s all the items I’m offering with this package:
