Changing Seasons- SE Australia.

  1. Hi Folks,

I haven't posted any images for a while so thought should show some shots I've been taking with the D90. I switched from compact to SLR in October last year and have really

been digging the SLR advantages. So much so I have been able to accept the loss of Multiple lens and LCD screen composing. I have however found that using the propriety

viewfinder was a struggle so recently purchased a 3rd party Viewfinder to solve that issue. I'm limited for lens choice and have been almost exclusively shooting with the 60mm

which is the perfect macro lens for these waters. As a consequence I've been doing a lot of Fish Portraits. Hoping to be shooting Wide Angle in a week or two once some new

equipment arrives. It's moving into Winter here now and the water temps are plummeting down but that heralds cleaner waters perfect for some WA work.

Have been lucky to spot a number of these devilishly hard to find critters.

It's also been great to meet and dive with a number of overseas visitors over the past few months. I've really had fun spotting critters and share in the opportunity to witness

and capture images with them. The look of amazement on Alex Mustards face when I showed him the elusive Tasselled Anglerfish was priceless.

    Cheers,

    Jim.

  2. Very nice shots, Jim. It does not look like the transition to DSLR was too difficult for you. Have fun with the wide angle.

  3. Nice stuff, Jim.

I think single strobe from above works well to give separation with the seamoth. Tangler remains one of the coolest fish I have ever seen (been shown!).

  4. I love the seahorse pic. Good one!

  5. Oooh yeah !

The seahorse for me too !

    Nice work James very creative.

  6. Jim,

Lovely work, you are going to have fun once you get that wide angle!

Are there many tasselled anglers around at the moment?

    Cheers,

    Nigel

  7. Nice work Jim!

The seahorse shot is my fav. as well!

    Cheers

  8. Thanks Guys it's good to see I'm not the only one with a Seahorse fetish. I'm always on the lookout for a nice portrait when the opportunity presents itself.

    Here's another beauty from Mornington.

Nigel this past year has been a particularly good year for Tanglers I've seen lots in all different sizes. Even got to watch a pair of brooding females

over a six week period and also came across a peculiar Green hued one too. On the first dive I saw the two brooding females I saw 5 in total including

one juvenile that would have fitted in the palm of my hand.

Here's a portrait of a recent sighting at Blairgowrie.

  9. Jim,

Thanks for posting a few tanglers, I had great fun last year when I was down in Melbourne photographing them, they certainly are one of the most amazing fish in southern Australia!

    Cheers,

    Nigel
