store the housing in between the dives with a few days break?

  1. hey folks!

i tryed the search but had no luck.

i'm using the nauticam housing for the nikon d90 with the inon z240 strobe and was wondering how to store everything in between the dives, when i have a few days break in between?

shall i keep the housing and everything after rinsing it with fresh water as it is in an airconditioned room? or is it better to remove the o rings and leave the housing open, or remove the o-rings and close the housing again? what about the port? better to keep in in the housing or separate?

    sorry for beginners questions.

    thanks in advance

    regards

  2. I'd just close it up. Keeps the dust out.

  3. No need to remove o-rings unless necessary to properly clean them. If your sync cords have stainless connectors & housing as aluminum connectors, you might want to disconnect them if electrolysis is a possible issue. Otherwise just leave it closed, set up & ready to go. The more you play with things the more chance for a problem.

  4. For me, As long as you rinse with fresh water and clearn it properly, battery and memory is still available to use for next trip and i will leave it just like that. Make sure before you jump to in to water rinse it in rinse tang to check agian.

Pls correct me if i doing wrong ways.........:)

  5. When you say a few days....... do you mean literally 3-4 days or are you talking potentially

a week or two or more?

If I'm on a trip I open the housing only to clean the O ring if I'm in a silty environment

and to change port/lens, batteries and card daily. IMO the less you mess with things the better.

If it turns into a longer break it's best to take the time and clean the gear properly.

AC/ no AC probably doesn't matter as much for storage as it does for condensation

build up when going from cool to warm environs, such as from the hotel to the dive

    spot.

  6. I would be more worried about my batteries be at full charge when I hit the water again. So I would open the housing and strobes to recharge batteries and check seal closely when closing it up after a full charge.

  7. Another vote for leave it as it is - if you are talking about 4-5 days. I spent a year working at KBR and during that time took my system apart probably no more than 3 times to clean it up. On a couple of occasions I left it fully assembled without using it for 10 days (after rinsing) and everything worked perfectly next time out.

If you use Eneloop batteries for the strobes there should be no real problems for them (nor the camera battery) of discharge over a relatively short period.

It always seemed to me that the less I took it apart, the less chance there was for leaks or damage - or, my biggest fear after a leak, bending a strobe pin.

  8. hey guy's!

    thanks for answers.

thats the way i keep it than for the future, change batterie and chip if nessesary, else i keep it closed.

for me was the questions about, as i'm working on the maldives and not always know if i'm going to dive on the next days, and so it is easy for me to have the camara ready (after leak check) for the next dives.

  9. As i have a high humidity high temp ambient here in Costa Rica i take it out of the housing to download the pictures and leave it outside because first i fear that may some mold or other fungus can grow inside the closed housing and second i need the camera sometimes for taking above water pictures.

But it may be a good/better solution to put it back in the housing and blow it again gentlywith dry air from a scuba tank as i always do before closing it, so that camera is stored in a dry ambient inside the housing. I would store tha camera at ambient temperature to avoid any condensation (if the air inside was less dry than expected) and general temp variations.
