Subal 4" mini dome with Tokina 10-17mm

  1. Hi,

Just wanted to inquire about setting up the older Subal 4" mini dome (DP-54B) with a Tokina 10-17mm on a Subal N2 housing with a Nikon D2Xs.

Any problems with this configuration, like the lens position within the dome?

If I were to try CFWA with a Kenko 1.4 teleconverter, what extension would I need?

    Thanks,

    Elmer

  2. Hi Elmer,

I can only speak from my Canon experience: when I got my Zen 4" dome, the Reef Photo guys told me to use the same extension ring as with the Subal FE2 port. Worked great. Might be worth giving them (or Backscatter) a call.

I know what Ryan says, but with my 4" dome and the Subal adapter on the Nauticam with the 7D, no extension ring worked far better than the 15 mm one which had a very slight vignette.

  4. Does the DP54 have a length of 54 mm? If so it is doubtful that the dome will be optically well placed.

  5. Hi Elmer

I use the 10-17 and the DP-54B on my ND80 housing with no problems at all. No extension ring, dome fits the lens like a glove. You will need an extension ring if you're going with a teleconverter.

Not quite sure how to measure, but if I measure from the base to the flange (where it meets with the housing) to the peak of the dome it is about 38 mm.

    Rob,

Do you know what extension ring I should use with a 1.4 teleconverter?

  7. The width/thickness of extension ring should be same as width/thickness of TC. My 1.4 TC is about 20mm, so add 20mm ring. Maintain same lens position relative to dome.

  8. There is now a 13mm Subal extension ring to use with the 10-17mm Tokina with the Zen100. Talk to Reef Photo......

  9. Hi all,

    For what it is worth...

With the Zen dome, I use a 15mm extension with the 10-17mm and a 32mm with the 1.4 Kenko teleconvertor.

Of course, I'm not sure how similar the Zen is to the Subal......
