Nikon 50mm f1.8

What does everybody think of the Nikon 50mm f1.8? I came across it at just $100 and was wondering what the difference was between say, the 60mm? Anyone use it?

50mm has closest focus of 45cm! Not much use underwater, whereas the 60mm is a dedicated macro lens that can focus down to 18.5cm

You could possibly use it as a macro lens by adding a +4 dioptre.

I use the 18-55mm with a +4 and it works OK, but not as sharp as the 60mm.

I tried it with +4 diopter behind ikelite 6" dome once.

Optically it worked fine, but it did not seem that useful.
