Anyone Like Bears?

  1. I took a trip to McNeil River to commune with bears. McNeil River has the largest congregation of brown bears in the world. There's something life changing about having a 500 lb brown bear sit 4 feet from you and eat a 10 lb salmon.

I can't figure out how to put a pic here, but here's a link to some images:

  2. Some nice images. I have done a trip in British Columbia that is somewhat similar and agree it is a special encounter.

  3. I love bears! Are you really allowed to stay 4ft close to the bears taking pictures?

There used to be a lot of bears where I am from (in the north of Spain) many many years ago but now, due to hunting etc..., there are only a few (less than twenty I recall...) and they are very protected but I don´t think they will make it back :notworthy:

  4. Some wonderful images there Bob, must be fantastic to be so close to those guys. I love the image with the river flowing past, just a great shot.

    Cheers,

    Steve

You are not allowed to approach, but if they approach you ... yup. The guy that started it, had one step on his foot some years ago. Hopefully, these guys will always be wild.

We did a trip to Knight's Inlet to see the bears. Spectacular. Photos here.

  9. Where was that Todd?

    Thanks

Knights Inlet, British Columbia. There are 3 different operators that utilize the Glendale spawning channel.

    Amazing images in that collection.

  12. Very nice shots, Bob! My wife and I went to Katmai, Alaska (Brooks Lodge) a few years ago to watch the brown bears feeding on salmon, and I know exactly what you mean about being that close to them. Fortunately, they're so focused on salmon that they seem to ignore humans...and even tolerate other bears, which they normally wouldn't. It's an awesome experience! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Very nice!
