D300 Macro Bouyancy question...

3 posts
  1. Hi everyone,

My wife has just got a Sea & Sea housing for her D300, has two strobes, focus light and the 105mm macro with the Macro port adapter and the DX port 50, with a Macromate wet diopter.

We are not too worried about bouyancy with the wide angle dome port as it won't be as heavy as the macro setup.

We have ordered ultralight arms with four of the 8" Double bouyancy arms and have ordered the Stix adjustable bouyancy belt for the macro port.

Does anyone know if this will be enough bouyancy for the system to be neutral?

Not everything has arrived, and once it all does, we won't have time to weight it in the pool and then have time to order extra bouyancy in time for the trip! We know it's not common sense to try and put a system together so fast, but with delays getting the system into the country, the dates have crept up on us!

We are just putting it all together, and against reason and common sense :) , doing this with only 2 weeks to go until we head out to Hanifaru in the Maldives, so any advice you may have will truly help!

If there is anyone with a similar system, that has found a combination of bouyancy products to make the whole macro system neutral?

    Any help gratefully received! ;)

    Thanks!!

  2. Hey Solo_NZ

Your wifes d300 with housing and 105 port will weigh about 26 ounces in water. As I don't know what strobes you are using I can't help you with there weighting. I do however suggest that you send back the ULCS bouyancy arms and get there non bouyant arms and some stix floats to add to the arms, as this will give you more bouyancy. I hope this is helpful.

    Mike

  3. I would agree with Mike about the Stix floats. But if you don't have time you will be fine with the collar.

    Have fun,

    Steve
