slave strobe more powerfull than connected strobe

3 posts
  1. hi,

I would like to know if it works if i add a second strobe in slave mode wich would be bigger than my actual strobe.

I am using an YS-60 TTL strobe, connected with nikonos type connector.

As I only have one connector to the housing, I would like to add an YS-90 or similar wich could work as a slave.

Will it work since thoses strobes are more efficient than my YS60?

I am beginner, so my target is to come back on land with nice souvenirs, I am not looking for ultimate perfection in pictures.

    Tx for help.

    John

  2. hello John, Sea and Sea also sells a Y cable that can connect two strobes from one bulkead. That is what i use.

The slave being more powerful than the main won't matter, just power down the slave and it will be similar. Also, two different powered strobes often produces an effective shadow on your subjects

  3. i used to have a similar setup (ys-60 and ys-90) and often the slave would not fire if it could not "see" the other strobe. you end up with the stobes always facing each other which limits creativity.

The Y-cable is a much better option.
