My family and I just returned from a trip to Isla Mujeres. We timed this trip around the full moon in July because of the bonita spawning that attracts large numbers of whale sharks to the area. We had four days of snorkeling -- two days we only found two whale sharks each day, one day we found nothing, but on the last day we hit the "mother load". We had bright sunny skies, flat seas, and hundreds (I am NOT exaggerating) of whale sharks feeding at the surface. Truly a magical experience! Below are a few photos. Others can be found here: http://debersole.com/layout/0001/gallery_view.cfm?g=165
Great stuff!!! Hope you have more photos of that last day, will be super to see so a big number of whale sharks in one frame!
What a trip!
ah man.. beautiful stuff Doug. Seems everyone is getting absolutely perfect shots from this year. Well done
Thanks. We were there with Jim Abernethy and Shawn Heinrichs just before Eric's Wetpixel trip.
The images are wonderful: what an experience!
Who were you (free) diving with?
Tim
I will keep that away from a public forum as the usual restrictions make it difficult to get the silhouette shots!
