Zanzibar dive operators...

2 posts
  1. The wifey and I are heading to Zanzibar in December. The trip is not a dive adventure, but since we will be there we want to log a couple of dives to say that we dove Zanzibar. Does anyone have an suggestions of reputable dive operators in Zanzibar? (reputable = few documented casualties, etc). We are not going to Pemba. Thanks!

  2. My info is quite a few years old but Mnemba and the North East Coast probably had the best diving around Zanzibar. Did 2 liveaboards there and also dived from the resorts around the same areas.

We stayed at the Palms while on Zanzibar on Bweju and the house ops was from the big resort near by. But they were ok. I can't vouch for the state of equipment as I had my own. Boats were ok but a bit old and tattered compared to Mnemba. Nothing special in terms of guiding but they did take care of my gf while I wandered off (after telling them I wouldn't be ...umm... around for the tour :)).

Our liveaboard was the Jambo from Spanish divers (which also runs a dive center somewhere in Nungwi). Again can't comment on the rental gear but I bring my own unless ordered not to! :D

Just be careful about mossies @ dusk and dawn as it's a Malaria area. Try to make it there around full moon for the weekend full moon party at Kenwa beach. That does mean kick butt currents on the better pelagic dive sites though :)
