  1. I am looking for assistance in identifying the following specimen:

    nektonic.jpg

I found it at our local docks in the arctic ocean (N69 W105) while seeking jellyfish. Approximately 3cm long, it swims by undulating the two fins or flaps near its head

(on the left hand side of the image) much like a squid. Photographed ex-situ in a gold panning dish.

    Nikon D300 105VR2.8 105mm f/16 1/10s, built in flash.

Many thanks to any who can help.

Beautiful, isn't it? Like a galaxy of lights - but it is not bioluminescent.

  2. It is gorgeous and its a pteropod (don't pronounce the p) or sea angel. A Clione sp.

Google "Clione limacina" for comparative pictures.

  3. Many thanks, Mr. Mustard. It caused some excitement when I brought it into the office. I'll return it to the ocean after its next photo session.

(Mandatory bad joke, sorry... Was it Mr. Mustard in the decompression chamber with the rebreather?)
