Sony DSC-V1 & Ikelite DS-50

  1. I am about order an Ikelite housing and flash for my Sony DCS-V1 camera and have questions regarding the Ikelite DS-50 flash packages and its controllers.

I am confused with the Flash controller options. Can I use the TTL sensor or should I get the Manual controller. In B&H Photo website there is a DS-50 package which says it will work with Sony cameras http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...u=244809&is=REG

On the other side Ikelite says it won't work and there should be a manual controller. But then if you check the DS-50 page and read the specs of the Digital TTL slave sensor 4100.5, it will work with digital cameras which have pre-flash (AFAIK, V1 has pre-flash) http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/dsensors.html

What do you say about this? Can I get an expert's view on this issue before I invest in something that won't work with V1.

    Thank You

  2. Ikelite web site page on the particular housing must take precedence over all claims. Situation is similar to the Manual Controller recommendation for "A" and "S" series Canon cameras. Manual Controller rather than TTL is recommended for use with the Sony DCS-V1 camera. First paragraph in right hand column of following URL explains why:

  3. Thanks Ike,

Your reply made things clearer. I will have a newbie question if you or other people don't mind. Since I'm new to UW photography (have plenty experience on land)

How do I use a manually controlled flash with the DCS-V1? What settings should I use for quick shots when I don't have the time to make adjustments for 10 different flash outputs?

TTL, Full-Auto, Manual? What should I choose on camera and flash?
