Aug 22nd 2010.........
Its 2.30p.m. and I'm alone at the stack....water a pleasant 14 degrees...encased in a wetsuit.... warmed at intervals by urine release...what bliss, or should I say...p*ss
I spot my quarry in a crevasse...and point my 105mm macro lens at him...the lens hunts in and out as I try to get a lock....he's too far in.
I try the focus light but to no avail...the combination of my 'angle of attack' and strobe angles wont allow the shot.....this little guy wont play ball. I give him a rest..and strategise....what to do???..
The idea comes ..I extend a finger..... and scratch a little bit of bare rock patch with my nail at the entrance of his hidey hole...and just like that...he comes forward....curious....wondering what's going on...I withdraw the finger...lift the camera to my eye...only to have him scuttle back in ...blast it!!!....
I wait...and try again....and this time he comes...and plops himself straight into the line of fire....I lift the camera and again the bloody lens gets stubborn with me and refuses to focus...I curse and swear silently..amateur indeed......nearly there but not ...quite there.....hold still you little sod ... and just like that.... he says.... with a big smile on his face.....Hiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Click goes the shutter, whack goes the flash.....and...
