October SEAsia Destination?

3 posts
  1. I have about 7 days the first/second week of October to take a dive trip in SE Asia before starting in on a new project back in Bangkok. My first option is good old standby of Koh Tao, but I have done that many times already and think its time to get out of Thailand diving for a bit.

Any recommendations? My needs are simple, I am traveling alone, so someplace with some life to it, relatively cheap (I am coming from Thailand diving standards which are really cheap!), good season for diving, easy access from Bangkok, macro/wide doesn't really matter, and someplace where I can get in 4 dives a day.

Bali seems like it could be a good option... Maybe someplace in Philippines, but I am going to be spending 10 days in Anilao in Jan, so not there!

Advice? For all the time I have spent in Asia, I cant say I have done much diving outside Thailand yet!

  2. Bohol/Balicasag/Malapascua in PI are all within 3/4 day travel from BKK, but since it's boat dives, it'll be 3 day dives and maybe a night dive, depends on the dive ops, I tend to hire my own boat so I go when I want.

The easiest would probably be Bali (Tulamben, the northern sites) since many of the sites are shore entry, you can dive as often as you want. Lembeh/Northern Sulawesi are also accessible within 3/4 day. Choose a resort with a nice house reef for additional dives outside the standard 3+1.

  3. Like Drew already said - October is prime time for Lembeh/Bunaken or Bali, both are excellent choices. You might have to shop around a little bit for prices for a 4 dive per day package, or get a place that offers shore diving on the house reef.

    Good luck!
