Festival of Underwater Pictures rules re image manipulation

  1. Does anyone know how I can find the rules regarding entries for the competitions? I've had a go but haven't succeeded.

Specifically- how much manipulation is allowed? Can I assume it's somewhat similar to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year rulebook?

    Thanks in advance...

  2. AFAIK, there are no restrictions - so it is very different from the wildlife style competitions. I have never been asked for a RAW file to verify any of my winning pix. Also, the festival always attracts lots of pool and advertising shots that are heavily manipulated.

That said, most of the judges tend to be quite traditional photographers - so if you subjects are wildlife orientated - you are unlikely to do well with a heavily manipulated treatment. If you subject matter is not nature orientated then you can probably do lots of manipulation and still do well.

  3. Thanks Alex.

Firing up the old CS3 to have a good look at some serious messing with these pixels

    - no, not really, I just wondered how much backscatter I could justify cloning out and maybe lose an aberrant buddy's fin or two!

  4. Thanks Alex.

    Definitely all of that!

I would just avoid creating anything unrealistic (anemonefish eating a shark) as such an image would be unlikely to appeal to old school judges.

The deadline is this week, isn't it? I didn't enter last year - I should probably dig something out for this year.

  5. Maybe we should start a thread for bizarre and unlikely U/W shoops? Big bad bobbit worm biting a beleaguered beluga perhaps?

The deadline is the 16th so you've still got a few days to just "dig something out" to effortlessly wipe the board! :)
