Hello all,
Hope someone may be able to shed some light on an issue I uncovered today, just a few days before a major trip.
I set up the HC3 in the L&M Bluefin with monitor back. Seems ok at first, then light in top right corner of monitor back goes from green to red. Does this mean anything as no instructions came with it. Then after the camcorder has been idle for a while the whole system shuts off and cannot start it up again without opening the back.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard.
When troubleshooting I've found that a process of elimination sometimes helps to isolate the problem:
Is the camera OK when switched on and left unconnected to the housing?
I'm not familiar with L&M housings, but I assume they have a LANC connector and a Video connector.
Next connect just the LANC...does the system shut down...if not...
Connect the Video cable to the camera...
If possible also try a swap...your camera in another housing with an LCD monitor.
This should indicate if the problem is with the camera or the housing. It sounds like it's a problem with the monitor. Since it's taking a few minutes to develop till shutdown it could be a resistance issue due to a faulty component (eg capacitor). Why its causing the whole system to lockup is odd...perhaps the camera is detecting a problem (voltage irregularity) through the video connector and activating a safety shutdown?
Not sure what the "green to red" means...is it a status LED of some sort. A battery/power indicator? Check with L&M...there might be a simple solution to the whole issue. Perhaps the power supply for the monitor is not taking a charge anymore and needs to be replaced.
