Syngnathus abaster - does anyone have photos of this fish?

  1. I'm trying to locate some images of this pipefish (it occurs in the Med and Atlantic north to Biscay) but find numerous incorrectly labeled images on the web (which clearly are other species). Can anyone let me have sight of images which they are certain are correctly identified? Or can anyone try to identify my images if I post them?

  2. Hmmm... I don't have any images, but I can certainly forward your shots to specialists and ask them what they think.

  3. Thanks Luiz

Any help appreciated. I have a tentative ID from an Italian fish specialist but would like more as I have no specimen. If you follow this link you will see why this interests me:

fundamentally this is a fish found in the Med and NE Atlantic to south Biscay with a few French records. Its a fair leap to North Wales, but not inconceivable, and if correct will be a first UK record. The area it was photographed in has had other 'finds' which may have come from north Spain.
