IKELITE Substrobe 150 and 400 Help Needed

  1. I am new here and not sure if this is the proper section or not.

If it is not the proper section please accept my apologies in advance.

Let me preface by saying that underwater photography is not an activity I participate in at the moment.

I have 'inherited' two IKELITE underwater strobes, one is the Substrobe 150 and the other is the Substrobe 400.

The 400 has " TTL " around the bezel.

What I received was the following:

    IKELITE 150

    IKELITE 400

    Nicad Battery Pack

Empty Battery Pack ( looks like you could insert batteries and make a pack )

    Smart Charger

I really am not sure what I am going to do with these at this point.

I thought about repurposing them and using them in studio or at remote location but this presents a problem.

How to connect them to the camera.

Maybe this endeavor is a waste of time and I should sell them off to someone who can use them.

I know they are older models and no longer officially supported by IKELITE.

If anyone has any suggestions, perhaps a source for manuals, cables ... or info on hooking them up to a Canon EOS DSLR so that I can use them with TTL.

I am qualified to tear things apart and put them back together again, so hacking a cable to make them work is OK with me.

Heck if anyone is interested in acquiring them from me, send me a message and maybe we can work something out.

    THANKS!!!!!

( I apologize again if this is posted in the wrong section or if it is somehow inappropriate )

  2. Hello,

I own both of those strobes.

They will not perform TTL with a DSLR - but they will work fine in manual. The SS400 is big but it puts out HUGE output and is worth keeping. You will need a sync cord from Ikelite to connect the strobe to your underwater housing. The strobes also incorporate optical slave sensors so you can trigger them remotely (manual strobe only).

    HTH

    James

  3. I have studio monolights (not TTL) if you were interested in a trade
