Making/connecting a red lens for focus light

4 posts
  1. I have read here where critters can be a bit shy with a bright white light but are far less so if the light is red. This will be my first ocean outing with this light. Trying to figure a good way to make/attach a red lens for my Big Blue 1x5W focus light.

I have a red acetate sheet but not really seeing a good way to attach a cutout from it.

Will be leaving for Bali and Alor in 6 days so looking for a solution that does not require something to be shipped.

    Suggestions?

Or do people think I will not need the red lens at all?

    thanks,

    dave

  2. Quick & cheap - red cellophane & a rubber band. Cover the light head & extend down around the sides a bit. Secure with band. Mandarinfish are ok with this but some/most may not like direct bright lighting.

My wife used this approach and it worked fine. I unscrewed the end of my focus light where the bulb and reflector is and fitted my red filter to the inside of the focus light glass. Worked well but I was unable to remove it if I desired.

As far as I can determine, you cannot get to the bulb area to install a filter this way. The head does not come apart it, appears to be pressed together.

The rubber band approach rather covers the lock and magnetic rotating collar for turning the light on/off.
