Last month we did some cave diving in France. Here is a new clip I would like to show You.

I wanted to get that "dark feeling" from a cave. We shot mostly with low lights on camera and a video light with my buddy. We also shot in dark, my going after him.

I used sony hc 7 camera with 35w and 21w hid video lights. Camera was mounted on a scooter.

Let me know what You think.

  2. Thanks for taking us along. You definitely were successful with the "dark feeling", I had the intense desire to go order a big light after watching it.

    Cheers,

    Steve

  3. Cool!

Steve, I promise, next time will be bright and shiny, as we also did one with sh.. load of lights.

I cannot let You feel depressed :)

    Best,

    P.

Thanks partner, but gladly my mental state was not at risk. :)

Looking forward to seeing the next installment.

    Cheers,

    Steve

  6. I really enjoyed this short film. The music helped achieve the mood and your sense of lighting accomplished your goals for the film. Like Steve Williams, I would love to do a dive like that but am not cave certified. Not too many(none) in San Diego. Great job.

  7. Great video, caves are always intense. I try to do at least a couple when I am down in Mexico.

Notice how I am letting that line go. :)

  8. Thanks for the good word.

  9. Great video mate, well done!

  10. Great video, the lights out portion was great, putting the diver in silhouette!

This was the fun part. You can imagine, turning all the lights off inside a cave with all that equipment (scooter, camera on a scooter, big light arms) is quite an experience :)

Once my buddy went ahead I didn`t see anything, I felt like beeing "two steps ahead" - basically I was seeing only what was lighted by him, and he was 20ft (6m) ahead :)

For that part I wish we had a stronger light for him, eg 50w hid, because our light was to low for that kind of a "cheap" camera.

  12. Claustrophobic just watching it. Glad to see the sunlight at the end.

I would have adjusted the color on the sunlight sequences to make them less green - but only because that's what audiences expect...

What is in the basket at the turning point of the dive?

    Regards

    Peter

  13. What is in the basket at the turning point of the dive?

The cave was heavily explored in 2003, the so called "shaft" (take a look here at the bottom of the picture) is the beginning of the deep part of the cave, therefore, on the way back it is the deco stop point.

The basket at the bottom, is a remaining part of the habitat that was build to do long deco stops in somewhat better conditions.

You can see it at this picture, second from the top image on the right.

  14. Super cool video and really nice to see a cave video that is not shot in Mexico. Specially liked the backward looking shots. An interesting addition to the normal shots. You had the cam mounted on a scooter mount I take it?

Tried the 50w Halcyon HID to use as fill light in the Solomons at around 70m. Much more ambient light admitedly but still a little underwhelmed by it s output as compared to the Halcyon 21w. More extensive testing might proved me wrong but....

Maybe you need to save and get the HMI :)

    Can`t deny it! :)
