Fiji next week, suggestions please

  1. Hey all,

I am going to Fiji next week and will have a few days for diving. I will be staying in Nadi, close to the international airport. I won't stay too long, so flying to outer islands is not an option. I looked into Beqa Lagoon, but it is kind of far from Nadi, and expensive to get there. So, are there any good dive sites on the Nadi area? I could go to Beqa for a couple of days if it's the only option, but would rather stay close. Thanks for any advice!

  2. It's about a 2 1/2 hr drive up to Raki Raki to dive Bleigh water - well worth it. There are a wide range of places to stay up there.

    Cheers

  3. Beqa Lagoon is most definitely worth the 2 hour drive from Nadi!!!! Not only is there the famous shark dive but the coral bommies are quite nice, delivering soft corals, ribbon eels, and all the other usual reef suspects. If you end up in Beqa and decide to do the shark dive, I would recommend Aqua Trek with Brandon. I dove with both the sharky operations and much preferred the staff of Aqua Trek. Diving around Nadi is not bad, but definitely does not deliver like many other dive destinations in Fiji...

  4. Thanks guys, I guess I will do it then. So, my next question, what's the best way to get to those places? I hear a taxi can be expensive (US$100+), any other options? I will only be there for a couple of days, so I may rent a car too, not sure yet.

  5. definately go to beqa. was definately some of the best diving i have ever done. if you like big animals, sharks more specifically you must go to beqa. i agree dive with brandon of aqua trek. great operation. the coral dives we did were great as well. but the shark diving is world class. every day we had 7 to 8 species of sharks depending on wether or not the tiger sharks showed up. white tip, black tip, silver tip, grey reef, nurse, lemon, bull (many of them), and depending if you get lucky tiger sharks.

  6. Got here in Fiji yesterday and Continental lost my suitcase with all my dive gear :) . On top of it, it is raining non-stop :)

  7. I am sorry to hear about the missing suitcase...very, very frustrating!

BUT...if you make it down to Beqa Lagoon - rain or no rain - you won't be disappointed!!!

    Hang in there, Rocha.

  8. Bummer on the suitcase, hope you get it in time! If not there should be rental gear through the local operators though its usually not flash

I agree with the others, drive to Beqa if you can. I lived in Suva for 4 years and went out there as often as possible. Diving near Nadi is not all that great to be honest. You should be able to rent a car in Nadi town (not at the airport!) for a lot less than a round trip taxi. It's a lovely drive too.
