  1. Yes with Lawrence Groth. The big attraction is of not chumming for the sharks, which is a criteria for me, and natural predation on and off. Occasionally, they drop you right in front to view a great white chowing on a seal. They started the decoy pulling the last few years but from the images I've seen, the topography doesn't lend itself to full shark breaches too often. Or maybe the sharks didn't have to do that for the last however many centuries until some researchers tried to mimic South AFrica. I've never understood the appeal of shots of a fake seal in the mouth of a shark as it breaches, but I'm weird that way.

The farallones conditions aren't nearly optimal. You have many windy days and the viz in general is worse than in Gansbaai or Mossel Bay, which occasionally can have quite clear days. Of course guadalupe gives you super viz but no chance of predation.

Would I personally fly 9000 miles to do it? No... but driviing 400 miles .. yes :)

I would do it as an add on to the Guadalupe trip next year.

Last year I flew Syd-San Fran-SAN anyways and had 12 hours in San Fran.

So might take 2-3 days and go out to see some bigger sharks.

    Cheers.
