It's great to see that RED seem to have overcome a couple of serious recent production issues with Scarlet (a firmware bug and the intended Chinese manufacturing company pulling the plug) and have shown the first non-vapourware, real-life working unit...and it looks very nice indeed.
For people like me who've not really followed developments closely, anyone fancy summarising the key differences (likely cost, size, resolution, target market etc.) between RED One, Epic, Scarlet (and perhaps their main competitors too)?
That's pretty cool, 2011 will be an interesting year with the AF100, F3K, Scarlet fixed and Epic light...
Lots of great cams to choose from and it will be interesting to see which ones get housings.

Even more interesting to see which rental houses will stock them ...

I've rented a fair few cams for surface projects but over here in Australia there are bugger rentals for underwater houisngs. I will be definitely be looking to purchase in 2011. My A1's and 7D's have paid for themselves about 10 times over and I always put a certain percentage from each job into an equipment account which just sits there an accumulates.... but 2011 could be the year that it gets cashed in

Haha...I don't think even the RED folks have quite figured that out completely yet.
The Scarlet in the video apparently was the "entry-level" fixed lens version (but with a smooth motorized zoom). I believe there will be other versions of Scarlet...and as they get more sophisticated in their features the distinction from Epic will get blurred. A key difference was going to be HDR...but even this might eventually be incorporated in all Scarlets (they've just decided to include it on the 2/3" (sensor) Scarlet.
Have a look at the discussion "What's the difference between Epic and Scarlet at 5k each?":

Same here - been waiting awhile now for 'The One'. I guess this is what Morpheus felt like hanging around and waiting for Neo to finally turn up!
