transcend CF card

  1. Anyone here using a Transcend CF card in their Nikon SLR? They're half the price of the Sandisk/Lexar so that seems interesting.

  2. Have for years in D2x, no problems.

  3. Not Trancend but an interesting side note - I have a Kingston 32GB card that works fine - well almost.

After not taking a shot for a couple of minutes it seems to go to 'sleep' - so when you finally do take a shot it takes about a second to wake up, as I have the display set to review after the shot this seems to hang the camera for a short time.

Admittedly I have not measured this hang time but it was sufficient for me to revert to using a smaller (sandisk) card on a JASA trip when the action was intermittent (but furious).

Not seen this reported anywhere but maybe it is a power save mechanism ?

They work fine in all my Canon cameras.

  5. My Transend card works fine in D200, D300 and D300s.

  6. I have used a Transcend 32GB 133x CF card in my D2X for a couple years now with no issues. With a fast reader it is possible to load on to a computer at slightly more than 2 GB per minute. The corresponding SD card (32 GB and 133x) is not as fast.

  7. Just ordered a 32GB 400x transcend card. Tempted to get the 64GB for Tanzania :)

Please let us know if it works in your D2X. It may not be any faster than a 133x as the camera is the limiting factor.

  9. But it should be faster downloading with my card reader.

Maybe. Your computer may be limiting the transfer rate. For example, my current i7 chipped MPB is quite a bit faster than my earlier Intel MBP (the model that was maxed out at 3GB of RAM; vs. 8 today). With my older MBP I got the fastest transfer by daisy chaining a FW800 reader (Sandisk) to an external disk. I get the 2 or so GB per minute transfer rate using either that Sandisk FW reader or with the Lexar USB UDMA reader attached directly to my current computer.

  11. Anyways, the difference in price is like $15, so im not gonna worry about it :)

Good point! You will also be ready with cards to use when you get your D4! :)

  13. Definitely not getting a D4. Probably a D800. Im heading to Tanzania in a few weeks, renting a D3 and a D300s (and a 500mm and a 200-400mm). Dont want to invest in buying anything until the D800 is out.

I see you logic. While waiting for Nikon to come out with something more consistent (same body with multiple sensors unlike the D3 - D3S thing) and updated I got a Canon for FF! :)

  15. I've been using a couple of Transcend cards for years, no probs. Just bought the Transcend 32GB 400x card someone mentioned... shot video with it all day yesterday on 7D, no probs. YMMV of course.

    Cheers,

  16. Thanks for this topic, it has hopefully just saved me a load of cash. Just ordered the Transcend 32GB 400x as well for £54 delivered.

  17. 1 of my 400X 64GB just died, a silly death too. Memory shows the images still are on the card but it can't be reformatted or recovered. Fortunately I managed to download all the pics before it died!

  18. My 32GB transcends have done ok so far.

  19. My 32GB 400x died last year in South AFrica. I now just use them for not so important stuff since they are cheap. But my Sandisk Extremes are in the camera for important shoots. I haven't had one fail yet.
