"Worm" in clear tube

  1. These wormlike creatures are a couple of centimeters long. I saw them in Lembeh on app 20 m depth. They were pretty active and seemed to be able to use the tube either way. Anyone know what they are?

And a close up (sort of, anyway).

  2. Hi Bent -- Thanks so much for posting these. They're polychaetes worms in the family Onuphidae. Clear tubes are associated with the genus Hyalinoecia, some species of which have been reported from Indonesia. I can't be positive without examining some under a microscope. Most polychaetes can easily turn around in their tubes or crawl backwards.

    Got any other worms? :-)

    Cheers, Leslie

  3. Thanks a lot. I really had no idea at all in what direction to look.

I actually have a couple of other worms I would need ID on!! I will get them posted when I get to my home computer.

    Cheers
