Is this a brittle star? (Red Sea)

  1. I've made this shot on a night dive in the southern Red Sea. It looked like several winding tentacles that quickly disappeared in the hole. The size of the hole on photo is 2cm (very roughly). Is this a brittle star?

  2. Definitely. A lot of them stay hidden in holes and let their fingers do the walking.

  3. Thank you Leslie. I've never seen brittle stars doing this before. It looked like a mysterious monster trying to hide it's tentacles from my dive light :)

  4. On the contrary, YOU are the mysterious monster that the poor creature is trying to hide from! :-D
