Similan & Phuket Diving (Pictures)

  1. Have just finished another trip in the Andaman Sea, one week in the Similans and some "day" diving out of Phuket and would like to share some images & have a little fun

Ever wondered what is inside a GPF?

The answer is surprising - MORE Ghost Pipe Fish

Forget the Coral Bleaching, there appears to be a risk of "over cleaning" as well

    After

Using an SLR is great, except when.....

Taking some nice photos of HQ Shrimp

This turns up - and it's too big for my 70mm!

Finally, for a few years I've never seen any Xeno Crabs in Thai waters. This trip I managed to find one in the Similans and four on local Phuket dive sites.

    Hope You Enjoyed them.

  2. Love the Eels -- hilarious!!

  3. Stunning Harlequin shot Jeff. What boat were you on for the liveaboard section of your trip.?

  4. Good laugh and nice shots. Where exactly did you find the xeno crab? Never seen it.

  5. Nice Jeff, love the way you did that! Are those 2 harlequins still in the rock on the right as you go down, pretty difficult to get the camera in there?

  6. Thanks - I'll try and answer the questions

    Liveaboard was the Marco Polo

Xeno in the picture is from Phi-Phi, Turtle Rock. There were also 3 at Phuket, Shark Point and 1 at Similan, West of Sweden.

The Shrimps were on the North side of the rock, in a crack, but with a long macro lens there is no need to put the camera inside - hardest part was getting the strobes to light the back of the hole.

I've seen the Harlequins on the West side in a crack close to a sea fan at the first Channel. Seems like they are gone though. It was Pain to get the strobes inside for sure!

West of Sweden. That's a new one too. :) Can you tell me the general area maybe. Was it close to the ribbon eels, or the channel, or something distinctive?

    Thanks for sharing anyways!

  8. Not far from the Ribbon Eels - opposite side of the BIG rock that they are up against.

  9. Very nice shots and thanks for the laughs. Brightened my day.

  10. Fantastic stuff Jeff..:-)
