Tambja verconis

  1. I had my first real attempt to get a good shot using a digital camera (something to do with the fact I've flooded my poor F70 :):( )

So what do you think of these shots of a Tambja verconis from Halifax Park, Port Stephens NSW?

I was using a DX 3000. I found it really hard after my SLR, particularly being able to tell when the shot was in focus. I ended up with lots of shots where the rhinophores were soft. Especially on such tight macro, I couldn't tell from the LCD the crispness of the shot. Is that just needing me to get used to it, or is that "normal"??

    Hammer away :D

  2. this one is my pick ...

  3. head on ...

  4. The second one is great!

  5. Great Pictures. I like the third most.

  6. The second one is very cool, the composition is somewhat different, which is why I like it.

Yes, it's VERY hard to tell from an LCD if you got a "crisp" image. Short of having an LCD with a 10x zoom on the preview, focus is almost impossible to tell on the LCD. In fact, the more I use any digital camera, the less I rely on the image on the LCD for anything but composition occassionally. Most people rely heavily on a histogram if one is available.

  7. Nice color........well done!

  8. Just to be different I'll put in my vote for the first one. :D

Seriously, the reason is that the second and third pic both have a out of focus foregrounds that distract from the subject.

  9. Thanks guys :D

So what are some way to improve focus with a P&S digital when you are shooting macro up close???

Herbko - I think the first one has stronger the compostition - but wasn't sure if I was liking it more because it was the shot I was looking for at the time. Technically I though the second shot was stronger (better lighting, focus and less shadow) which I think are the things a shot can least afford to have wron with it ...

I found it frustrating because I have lots of shots like this one below ... which I think are spoilt by the rhinophore being out of focus ... obviously because the camera is focusing on the larger body of the animal. Arrrrgh!
