  1. Hi All,

Heading to Bali, Borneo and KL for approx 1 week each...

Want to see some AWSOME stuff, and would like to know of any places to avoid, and what not to miss.

I have my family with me, so only day dives will do...

    Cheers

Get to Semporna and from there you can dive mabul, sipadan, kapalai and Sibuan...

Check out http://www.scuba-junkie.com/ Although i stayed at their Mabul resort, they have daily diving trips to these islands. Sipadan needs permits in advance so if you want to dive there book well in advance. The nearest Airport is Tawau and flights on Air Asia are really cheap.

I had also gone with my kids - 8 and 14. Apart from diving we stayed at Sepilok which my kids really liked a lot. They have something like an animal farm on the premises itself. Annie who manages the place is very helpful and efficient. This place is right next to the orangutan rehabilitation center and sanctuary. http://www.sepilokforestedge.com/ There is also the rainforest discovery center close by where you can get to see exotic plants, flowers and take a canopy walk high in the rainforest to check out the many wild but resident and migratory birds there. http://www.forest.sabah.gov.my/rdc/ She can also arrange stays right inside the rainforest in a jungle camp which my kids loved. Kinabantang jungle camp...... http://www.kinabatangan-jungle-camp.com/ They have daily boat rides to check out the wild life like the proboscis monkeys and the penomenal bird life. A great experience overall.

    Hope this helps.

...I liked the Borneo part of Malaysia the best.

Bali - for diving and peace you should head Pemuteran, Menjangan and Amed. Away from the hustle bustle and really pristine and beautiful. With kids the Amertha Villas are super. Tulamben is also a great place to go for diving.

    Hope this helps.

  3. I'd back all of that up. Borneo is amazing. I stayed in Semporna Dragon Lodge which is out over the water and dived with scuba junkie.

Definately do the Sepilok Orangutan sanctuary and the Kinabatangan river is amazing. A chance to see wild Orangutan, amazing bird life, monkeys etc. The kids will love it as much as us big kids.

KL may not warrant a full week, and Borneo may need more. In KL you could try the Elephant rehabilitation sanctuary which any guide will know about, but also on the same day, check out the deer sanctuary. Its a small place but with some amazing creatures. The deer you can feed by hand, they have a rescued Sun bear who loves honey and you can even put a 6ft python round your neck. This is not on most guide trips or books but is about 15mins from the Elephant park and worth the trip. About an hour and a half from the city. Having said this, i did it in 2006, hope its all still there!

  4. Thanks - I will report back as to what I find...

    Cheers
