lights vs strobes

  1. looking to move from point and shoot and video to dslr. we are considering canon 7D or nikon D7000, leaning towards the latter. would use the tokina 10-17 fisheye with either.

among many other questions, wondering if anyone has comment regarding use of 2 ikelite pro video light IIIs instead of strobes for photos using fish eye lens?

    Really?

From what I understand, the live view mode is a pain to use, you can't easily change aperture and it's not full manual.

Just google "Film shot on 7D" and "Film shot on D700" surely that should speak volumes?

As an answer to your question, I use 2 600 lumen LEDs but they're no replacement for strobes for stills. You simply don't get the spread and intensity of light. It's ok to add some fill in on WA, that's where I'd leave it.

  3. I'm new to underwater shooting. Actually have not shot yet... and was wondering about which was better myself. As far as strobes go, is there a place other than ebay to find good used ones online? Also how about places to get them serviced? And is the servicing as necessary as it it is for cameras. Specifically Nikonos?

  4. For stills, you really want to use strobes
