The Pit

  1. The Pit is a giant sink hole in the Dos Ojos park in Mexico. It's a huge vertical drop and has the deepest known cave entrance in the area at 120m. At 27 metres there's a spectacular 'cloud' of hydrogen sulphate.

It's a tough journey in to get there then a harrowing 9 metre drop into the water, but once you're in it's truly an amazing dive.

This is a film I shot last week for a client, in The Pit.

It's recommended in HD if you have the bandwidth.

  2. Great work and what an amazing place.

Any mishaps leaping in from 9 meters up ?

    Cheers

No, but jumping that far with doubles on leaves you on the edge for a while before you pluck up the courage. You seem to be in the air for a long time!

Awesome stuff! I've done Dos Ojos (bat cave and barbie line), Grand Cenote, Temple of Doom and El Eden. Love them! It looks like The Pit is a cave dive and not a cenote dive correct? One of these years I wanna come down there and spend a week just doing cenotes.

    Really like your work!

No, it's a cavern dive. It's essentially a large sink hole, but there is an overhead environment if you swim in under the shoulders of the hole as it widens from about 12m, but you're never out of the cavern zone (unless you penetrate into the cave line.)
