Worst vis ever - Swanage UK - D7000

11 posts
  1. A fine day in Swanage today with some hardcore UK photographers but the visiblity was one meter at best. Seaweed floating everywhere and surge. All in all, the worst photographic conditions I think many of us have ever faced.

Every time you line up a shot, a pile of seaweed would float past!

All shot with D7000 in a Nauticam housing, 60mm macro with macro port and a couple shot with a prototype FIT +16 diopter. No vis for wide angle and the extra distance with a 105 macro would have aggravated the situation.

Very difficult to manage the backscatter

    This one demonstrates the current.

  2. Nice shots! If you didn't mention the bad conditions, I wouldn't have guessed from looking at your pics. I love #2 and the nudi shots. The last 2 are great behavior shots and the negative space is nice.

  3. Looks soupy!

The second to last shot is a keeper nonetheless! Thanks for posting.

  4. 1m viz...that doesn't sound too unfamiliar :-)))

  5. Us poor green water people!

  6. You and your bloody excuses Alex........

Let me know when the viz hits 10 metres and the water is 26c

  10. Of course...

... you've never had the privilege of following my Force Fins on a dive...

... but that's what Photoshop is for!

On the other hand, on April 27th I took this (vis. 20m, temperature 26 Celsius):

  11. However...

... even tho' we love British diving, sometimes it can be a trial. To add to misery from my images being regularly rejected by the audience vote in competition at EMUP, I can't compete in the stirred-up water that surrounds the UK at the moment...

... a splash-in on Anglesey at the weekend was fraught with bad weather, pouring over the mountains:

The best of a work in progress (inspired by Alex T, with apologies for my execution of the idea), but not up to much: I'm not sure if it's my skill or the waves in 15' of water to blame!

This is what anything more than a few inches away looked like, despite side-lighting:
