We are planning our trip to Fiji in November and we have airline tickets already but still don't know where to dive in Fiji.
We checked many websites but still can not decide. Many people say Savusavu Bay is the best for colorful fish and coral. We don't know if we should stay around this bay area for the entire trip or should we explore other parts of island. We will be in Fiji for 8 days and can dive for 6 days. There are many website offer packages including lodging, food, and diving. Their prices look reasonable but we don't know if the sites they pick will be good or not. We are not crazy about diving with oceanic white tipped sharks and more interested in colorful coral and non-poisonous fish.
Can you sharing your experience in Fiji? Do you recommend signing up a package deal or book diving and lodging separately? Where are your favorite photography sites?
Thank you very much,
I dived with Scuba Bula (www.scubabula.com) in Fiji last year, staying at the associated Seashell@Momi resort. The soft corals were amazing, and there was lots of life and hardly any other divers. The shop pretty much catered to exactly what we wanted to do. Only problem for photography is that you walk out over the reef to the boat. The shop does your tanks and weights, but I wasn't going to let anyone else carry my camera, and it gets a bit heavy by the end of the day.
We took a trip to Fiji over thanksgiving a couple years ago. The water was starting to warm back up and had a bit of plankton in the water.
We ended up doing the aggressor liveaboard (now Peter Hughes) and they went around to different islands so we got a nice mix of everything. Jim's alley off the island of gau. Was the best dive all week. But any dive in namena reserve is great too. I heard the NAIA is a great liveaboard too. Also my local dive shop goes to Fiji often and always goes to taveuni. So I have heard the is good land based. But don't know from personal experience.
Great photos. Thanks for sharing. I will look into this site.
Looks like most liveaboard boats live on Saturday. My flight won't get there until Sunday afternoon. I guess I have to look for other options.
Thank you for replying.

Thank you very much,
The diving around Levuka was good, many reef sharks and barracuda, beautiful shallow reef with nice hard corals and colorful small fishes. The diving around Wakaya was even better, manta and hammerhead can be seen quite regularly.
The dive center in Levuka helped us to book levuka homestay and it was good, clean rooms with beautiful garden and very welcoming host.
3 years ago, I was flabbergasted with the vibrant coral and the clouds of anthias fish in the Bligh Waters.
The Vatu I Ra channel can be dived from north Coast of Viti Levu, Wananavu is the most famous resort there and also a very comfortable place. Note that Vatu I Ra area is close to the Namena reserve cited above.
The main thing is that you don't have to take a domestic flight to go to Wananavu from Nadi airport (3hrs drive) and that you could also couple 4 days in Wananavu with 2 days south in Pacific Harbor if you want to attend the Tiger/Bull shark dives or even dive Beqa lagoon (the car transfer will take you almost full day though, but it may be the opportunity to do some topside sightseeing).
