Using USA Battery chargers with 240v 50hz power ??

  1. We are going to Bonaire (Buddy Dive) soon and the dive shop trip 'coordinator' said that we probably shouldn't use our battery chargers because of the 240v/50hz power supply in Bonaire will be bad for 'delicate' electronics. Most of our battery chargers (camera batteries/laptop) indicate they are compatible with 240v/50hz. Is this trip 'coordinator' correct?

We will need to charge AA (strobe) batteries and we have 3 Maha MH-C204F chargers however their power transformers indicate they are 120V/60HZ only. What are our options for charing these batteries?

    Thanks for any information!

If a charge is rated for 240v 50Hz then yes you may use it there.

Most manufacturer design there charger for 100-250V 45-65Hz, that way they only have to switch power cord for selling there products in other country.

For charge rate for 120V/60Hz only, you should use a STEP DOWN VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER. now 240V/50Hz is converter to 120V/50Hz. You still have a different in frequencies but this not big deal.

  3. We've been all over the world, including some rather remote islands, and have never had a problem with dual voltage battery chargers.

For the AAs, get a Maha charger that is dual voltage? http://www.thomasdistributing.com/Maha-MH-...ger_p_1645.html

The only electronic device I own that isn't dual voltage is my electric toothbrush - I leave it at home.

  4. If you are using a power strip, make sure it is rated for the higher voltages!

  5. And that you have the proper plug adapter if different from our flat 2-prong (3 if grounded).
