Ikelite DS or other strobe for Olympus XZ-1?

6 posts
  1. I have a complete and little used DS-51. Should I use it or another mfr for the Olympus XZ-1 in Oly housing?

I am used to shooting manual flash u/w so the new Ike coupler is ok (at least). Presumably other strobe would get me some form of TTL or at least full auto exposure control?

I sometimes shoot with Inon WAL-100.

  2. Hi Lee.

I've been using a ds51 with several digicams now, with ttl.

Just grab a heinrichs optical DA, and it will give you optical slave that works just great.

I got mine from reef photo.

    You just need that:

    And an ikelite/nikonos synch cord.

  3. For $80 it's a good solution with the DS-51 and PT-051.

Agreed, heinrichs and new sync cord = bucks. KISS applies.

I am just getting set up with my Olympus XZ-1 in Olympus housing and am looking for strobe suggestions as well. How did this work for you?

I did not use DS-51 with Canon, but think it should work with new f/o adapter in manual mode only. I am using Inon D2000 now with Fisheye FIX. Very please especially with EA mode and camera on manual (just like the good old days wit Ike~).
