As many of you know, we just returned last weekend from a fabulous trip to Indonesia (Sulawesi, diving with Murex Dive Resort in Manado) with three days in Singapore on the back end. Really appreciated your very thorough report. We are considering this area next year and your advice with Singapore airlines could be very helpful. Especially coming from NYC area.

No, even though it's only about 16 miles away. The day of the first eruption (a few days before we arrived), smoke hung over Manado. We could also see some smoke clouds in the volcano's direction during our stay but nothing that changed our plans. The second eruption happened the day after we left Manado.
