BSoUP Goes digital

  1. I am please to be able to announce that next week the British Society of Underwater Photographers is having its first "Digital Evening"! While we have had digital talks in the past this is the first time we have a full program with three digital talks.

If you are a UK digital photographer (and live close enough to London) then come a long and join up. See the BSoUP website for more information. 21.01.04, 8:00pm, Holland Club, Imperial College, London.

    Alex

Below are the details of the meeting (which I didn't write):

    INTRODUCTION - ALEX MUSTARD

Alex will present a brief digital equipment overview, followed by a

discussion on film vs. digital and digital compact vs. digital SLR together

with the new techniques that digital allows. Alex is a BSoUP committee

member, a highly accomplished photographer with many well deserved awards to

his name, and a very popular speaker.

    CANADA - JOHN DE BOECK

As a slightly incongruous but very interesting interjection in the digital

line-up, John will present a brief, 10 minute introduction to the

opportunities for diving at Vancouver Island in Canada. John has been

running dive operations from Vancouver for about 25 years and currently runs

Browning Pass Hideaway, a floating dive lodge at the north of VI.

FOCUS ON SLIDE COMPETITION - ABSTRACTS

The theme is Abstracts. Maximum of 2 x 35mm slides per entry. No sticky

labels please, mark your slides according to the competition rules on the

    website www.bsoup.org

    BREAK

    FOCUS ON COMPETITION RESULTS

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR IN DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY - ALAN JAMES

Alan will illustrate his work with some stunning A3 digital prints, and will

present a personal perspective on the transition from film to digital. Alan

has been actively working in underwater photography since 1985. He has many

national and international awards to his credit. His work is well published,

with well over 100 dive related magazine publications relating to worldwide

travel and photographic experiences and also his UK book 'Beneath British

Seas'. Alan is a well established and popular figure in the world of

underwater photography and runs the retail shop and service centre 'Alan

    James Photography' in Bristol.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND PHOTO-JOURNALISM - CHARLES HOOD

Charles will describe the publishing aspect of digital underwater

photography including creativity and publishing requirements, digital's role

in photo-journalism and post shooting image optimisation. Charles is our

third regular and popular speaker of the evening, he is senior correspondent

for Dive magazine and also runs adventurous overseas

    underwater expeditions.

  2. Hey, you have John speaking.

If you have not been to BC before and dove the Browning pass you really should consider it. Heck it is practically free based on the exchange between the pound and the CDN dollar.

I dove a number of times on the Sea Venturer which dives the area. (The handsome parting gift was a wife) Someone who understands diving.
