hi guys, I read in a guidebook (2002) that rental scuba equipment was hard to come by in Cuba.
Have things changed or are we best to buy fins and a mask at least here in mexico before we leave?
Cheers!

If there is a dive center where you go to they will have rental gear , mainly cressi sub and mares brands , obviously all dive gear imported from Europe .
I always take my dive gear with me so no experience with rented gear but i have seen they have available in all places i went ( Santa Lucia , Guardalavaca , Maria La Gorda and Jardines de La Reina ) as i remember .
Any other info , let me know
Enjoy your trip

If you go Habana or Varadero there are rentals for sure.. booking a dive is best through hotel services in these places. I took my dive gear with me, but I´m pretty sure I saw rentals.. although really old equipment... The guide in Habana has the weights tied with a piece of rope, so expect anything...
On the other side, dive op. in Varadero was very professional..
The best places in Cuba are the ones JA went.
