Humpback Whales, Tonga Galleries done

  1. So finally got the Galleries up for Tonga. Trying a "Brief" one of about 20 images and a "Detail" one of about 80 more general images. Video and trip reports, eventually...

  2. Nice...Tonga has been on my list for a while, and moves up a few places every time I see humpback shots. How was being in the water with them?

One thing I would think about would be adding names to your images. I really like the _DSC4235 shot, for example, but hard to remember it by reference number. It can be hard to think up names to call everything though, especially with similar subject matter.

  3. Thanks, yes I am really lazy but I should name the shots. I think like many with +2000 photos, 5-10 hours of video to cut down to 3mins I start cutting corners. Now if someone would pay me to do this....

Again we never really had a pair that just sat for us. To use an American football analogy; we were the linebacker watching the running back coming at you full blast and just trying to figure out which way they would cut. To be in with the calf when it was playing on the surface, it watching you almost showing off for you was something. To see how the mothers are so watchful of the calves is endearing. As mentioned for me the highlight was dropping in the middle of a heat-run of 6 whales, kicking so hard the camera was just an anchor but to be in the center of them, see them adjusting their course for me, that eye contact, will never forget it.

Horrible shots but from that moment.

  4. 4243 is a fantastic shot. I am so jealous. I cant wait to do this trip in a few years time. I can only imagine how much hard work you have to put in to get these in the frame. Well done.

  5. I'm voting for 4553, I like your linebacker analogy, exactly right. I haven't had the chance to play in Tonga yet but it's way up on the list.

    Cheers,

  6. My bucket list keeps getting longer, and the time inevitably less. Steve let's plan this together.

    Great images, amazing stuff!
